Description

EPSILON-POLYLYSINE (ε-Poly-L-lysine or ε-PL) is a small cationic isopeptide made from the essential amino acid L-lysine. It is a linear polymer of lysine, produced by Streptomyces fermentation, and has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect. ε-Polylysine is a light yellow powder with strong hygroscopicity and a slightly bitter taste. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in organic solvents such as ethyl acetate and ether. The molecular weight of polylysine is between 3600-4300, which has the best antibacterial activity. It is heat stable and active in different environments, making it a promising candidate for various applications.

Uses

Used in Food Industry:
EPSILON-POLYLYSINE is used as an antimicrobial preservative for food preservation. It exhibits antimicrobial activity against a wide spectrum of bacteria, yeast, and fungi, making it effective in maintaining the freshness and safety of various food products. It is approved for food use in Japan, Korea, and China, and has been given Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) status in the USA.
Used in Pharmaceutical Applications:
EPSILON-POLYLYSINE is used as an antimicrobial agent in the pharmaceutical industry due to its strong antibacterial action, which is more potent than alpha-Poly-L-lysine. The adsorption of ε-PL to the bacterial cell surface plays an important role in its antibacterial activity, making it a valuable component in the development of new drugs and treatments.
Used in Cosmetics Industry:
EPSILON-POLYLYSINE can be used as a preservative in the cosmetics industry, providing a natural and effective alternative to synthetic preservatives. Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties help maintain the integrity and safety of cosmetic products, reducing the risk of contamination and spoilage.
Used in Agricultural Applications:
EPSILON-POLYLYSINE can be employed as a natural antimicrobial agent in the agricultural industry, particularly in the preservation of harvested crops and the treatment of plant diseases caused by bacterial infections. Its heat stability and wide pH range effectiveness make it a suitable choice for various agricultural applications.
Used in Environmental Applications:
EPSILON-POLYLYSINE can be utilized in environmental applications, such as water treatment and waste management, to control the growth of harmful microorganisms. Its antimicrobial properties can help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and improve the overall quality of the environment.

History

In 1977, Japanese scholars S. Shima and H. Sakai, in the process of screening Dragendo~Positive (DP) substances from microorganisms, discovered that a strain of actinomycete No.346 can produce a large amount of stable DP substances. The analysis and structural analysis of the hydrolysate confirmed that the DP substance is a homopolymer of 25-30 lysine residues. A homologous amino acid polymer formed by NH2 condensation, so it is called ε-Poly-L-lysine (ε-Poly-L-lysine for short ε-PL).

Safety

ε-PL enters the human body and is converted into lysine through digestion and decomposition. Lysine is one of the eight essential amino acids for the human body. It is an amino acid allowed to be added to food and is non-toxic and harmless to the human body. Therefore, ε -PL as a nutritional bacteriostatic agent, its safety is much higher than other chemical preservatives.

ε-Polylysine

ε-Polylysine (ε-poly-L-lysine, EPL) is typically produced as a homopolypeptide of approximately 25–30 L-lysine residues.Epsiliseen?- H is a natural antimicrobial agent with ultra-high concentration of E-Polylysine, used in food, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical applications.ε-Polylysine (ε-poly-L-lysine), the main active ingredient in Epsiliseen?, is a small polypeptide of the essential amino acid L-lysinethat is produced by bacterial fermentation; the natural fermentation is only observed in strains of bacteria in the genus Streptomyces.ε-Polylysine is commercially used as a food preservative in Japan, the republic of Korea and in the USA. Food products containing polylysine are mainly found in Japan. The use of polylysine is common in food applications like: boiled rice, cooked vegetables, soups, noodles and sliced fish (sushi).

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 28211-04-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,8,2,1 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 28211-04:
(7*2)+(6*8)+(5*2)+(4*1)+(3*1)+(2*0)+(1*4)=83
83 % 10 = 3
So 28211-04-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
