Usage

Description

Pirenzepine hydrochloride is an anticholinergic agent that functions as an antagonist of M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. It is selective for M1 over M2, M3, and M4 receptors and is used to treat conditions such as myopia, gastric and duodenal ulcers. Pirenzepine hydrochloride is a solid and has the ability to induce the dimerization of muscarinic M1 receptors.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Pirenzepine hydrochloride is used as an antiulcerative agent for treating gastric and duodenal ulcers. It works by inhibiting gastric acid secretion and reducing the contraction of the circular smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract.
Used in Ophthalmology:
Pirenzepine hydrochloride is used as a treatment for myopia (nearsightedness). It prevents the development of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) in a chick model of experimental myopia.
Used in Gastroenterology:
Pirenzepine hydrochloride is used as a tricyclic gastric-acid inhibitor, which helps in reducing gastric acid secretion and thus aids in the treatment of gastric ulcers.
Used as an M1 Antagonist:
