3039-71-2 Usage

Description

U 18666A, also known as an oxidosqualene reductase inhibitor, is a cell-permeable, amphiphilic amino-steroid that plays a significant role in altering intracellular membrane protein trafficking by disrupting the intracellular biosynthesis and transport of LDL-derived cholesterol. It is known to exert its effects through the inhibition of 2,3-oxidosqualene-lanosterol cyclase activity and has also been reported to inhibit the activity of Δ8-sterol isomerase.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Research:
U 18666A is used as a research tool for studying Niemann-Pick disease, a genetic disorder characterized by the accumulation of cholesterol in cells. It helps researchers understand the importance of molecular trafficking through the lysosomal pathway in this and other conditions.
Used in Cholesterol Transport Studies:
U 18666A is used as an inhibitor to investigate the egress of cholesterol from late endosomes and lysosomes. This application aids in understanding the mechanisms of cholesterol transport and its role in various cellular processes.
Used in Drug Delivery Systems:
In the field of drug delivery, U 18666A is used as a component in the development of novel drug delivery systems. Its ability to alter intracellular membrane protein trafficking makes it a valuable asset in enhancing the delivery, bioavailability, and therapeutic outcomes of various drugs, particularly those targeting cholesterol-related conditions.
Used in Cellular and Molecular Biology:
U 18666A is used as a research compound in cellular and molecular biology to study the effects of cholesterol on cellular processes and the role of cholesterol transport in various diseases. This application helps researchers gain insights into the underlying mechanisms of cholesterol-related disorders and develop potential therapeutic strategies.

Biological Activity

Inhibitor of cholesterol synthesis and cellular transport, and weak inhibitor of hedgehog (Hh) signaling. Reduces serum sterol levels in rats in vivo .

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3039-71-2 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,0,3 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3039-71:
(6*3)+(5*0)+(4*3)+(3*9)+(2*7)+(1*1)=72
72 % 10 = 2
So 3039-71-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
