317-52-2 Usage

Description

Hexafluronium bromide, also known by its brand name Mylaxen, is a potent cholinesterase inhibitor. It is a quaternary ammonium compound that acts as a muscle relaxant, specifically for skeletal muscles. Its ability to inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase results in the accumulation of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to increased muscle contraction and ultimately muscle paralysis.

Uses

Used in Anesthesiology:
Hexafluronium bromide is used as a muscle relaxant in the field of anesthesiology, particularly during surgical procedures. Its application is to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide muscle relaxation, which is essential for certain types of surgeries. The muscle relaxation allows for better access to the surgical site and reduces the patient's movement during the procedure.
Used in Combination Therapy:
Hexafluronium bromide is also used as a synergist in combination with succinylcholine, another muscle relaxant. This combination is employed to enhance the muscle-relaxing effects and to reduce the required dosage of each drug, thereby minimizing potential side effects.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
In the pharmaceutical industry, hexafluronium bromide is utilized as an active pharmaceutical ingredient in the formulation of various drugs, specifically those aimed at providing muscle relaxation during medical or surgical procedures. Its role as a cholinesterase inhibitor makes it a valuable component in the development of medications that target muscle control and paralysis.

Manufacturing Process

2 Methods of producing of hexamethylene bis(2-fluorenyldimethylammonium) dibromide: 1. To a solution of 13.2 g (0.054 mole) of 9-bromofluorene in 200 ml of acetonitrile was added 3.1 g (0.018 mole) of 1,6-bis(dimethylamino)hexane. Heat was evolved and solid began to precipitate immediately. After the initial reaction had subsided the mixture was refluxed for 3.5 h on a steam bath. The solid was collected and recrystallized three times from propanol to give 10.66 g (89% of the theoretical yield based on alkylenediamine) of hexamethylene bis(9-fluorenyldimethylammonium) dibromide, as white crystals melting at 188°-189°C. 2. A mixture of 4.18 g (0.02 mole) of 2-dimethylaminofluorene and 1.22 g (0.005 mole) of 1,6-dibromohexane was heated at 115°C for 24 h, after which time 10 ml of dry dioxane was added and the mixture refluxed for an additional 37 h. The solid was filtered off washed with hot acetonitrile and twice recrystallized from propanol to give 0.45 g of hexamethylene bis(2- fluorenyldimethylammonium) dibromide, melting at 220°-222°C.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 317-52-2 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 3,1 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 317-52:
(5*3)+(4*1)+(3*7)+(2*5)+(1*2)=52
52 % 10 = 2
So 317-52-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
