Description

PERFLUORO-1,3-DIMETHYLCYCLOHEXANE is a clear colorless liquid that has been studied for its properties, particularly in the quenching of the second excited singlet state of xanthione using picosecond time-resolved fluorescence decay methods.

Uses

Used in the Preparation of Amorphous Fluorocarbon Films:
PERFLUORO-1,3-DIMETHYLCYCLOHEXANE is used as a precursor for the preparation of amorphous fluorocarbon films by plasma polymerization. This application takes advantage of its chemical properties to create films with unique properties for various applications.
Used in Hydroformylation of Linear Terminal Alkenes:
PERFLUORO-1,3-DIMETHYLCYCLOHEXANE is used as a solvent in the hydroformylation of linear terminal alkenes using rhodium-based catalysts under fluorous biphasic conditions, both in the presence and absence of toluene. This application utilizes its inert and nonpolar nature to facilitate the reaction process and improve the efficiency of the hydroformylation.

Purification Methods

Fractionally distil it, then 35mL are sealed with about 7g KOH pellets in a borosilicate glass ampoule and heated at 135o for 48hours. The ampoule is cooled, opened, and the liquid is resealed with fresh KOH in another ampoule and heated as before. This process is repeated until no further decomposition is observed. The substance is then washed with distilled water, dried (CaSO4) and distilled. [Grafstein Anal Chem 26 523 1954, Beilstein 5 III 378.] IRRITANT.
