361-37-5 Usage
Description
Methysergide, also known as Methylergonovine EP Impurity G, is a serotonergic receptor antagonist that plays a significant role in various medical applications due to its ability to block the action of serotonin, a neurotransmitter. It is particularly effective in treating conditions where serotonin levels are elevated or where its effects need to be controlled.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Methysergide is used as a vasoconstrictor for the specific treatment of migraines. It helps to constrict blood vessels in the brain, reducing the severity and frequency of migraine attacks by counteracting the vasodilation effects caused by excess serotonin.
Additionally, due to its serotonergic receptor antagonist properties, methysergide can be used in other applications where serotonin's action needs to be inhibited, such as in the treatment of certain gastrointestinal disorders or in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. However, it is important to note that the use of methysergide should be carefully monitored and prescribed by a healthcare professional due to its potential side effects and the risk of developing tolerance or dependence.
Originator
Sansert,Sandoz,US,1962
Clinical Use
Methysergide (Sansert), which is structurally identical to methylergonovine except for the addition of a methyl group to the indole nitrogen, has far less of the uterine
stimulatory properties of the other agents and, instead, is used exclusively for treatment of migraine headache as a serotonin antagonist at 5-HT1/5-HT2 receptors.Methysergide is a potent peripheral inhibitor of 5-HT receptors in the blood vessel, which inhibits vessel-wall permeability. Methysergide also inhibits the release of
histamine from mast cells and stabilizes platelets against the release of 5-HT, which may be responsible for the onset of the migraine attack. In contrast to its
peripheral effects, methysergide appears to be a central 5-HT1 agonist, resulting in alleviation of the central hyperalgesia effect that occurs in patients with migraine.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 361-37-5 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 3,6 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 7 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 361-37:
(5*3)+(4*6)+(3*1)+(2*3)+(1*7)=55
55 % 10 = 5
So 361-37-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
