General Description

2-CHLORO-N-(4-PHENOXYPHENYL)ACETAMIDE, also known as clofibric acid, is a chemical compound used as a lipid-lowering agent and as a treatment for hyperlipidemia. It belongs to the class of fibric acid derivatives and is structurally related to the drug clofibrate. It works by increasing the breakdown of triglycerides and decreasing the production of LDL cholesterol in the liver, ultimately reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, it has been found to have potential toxic effects on the liver and kidneys in some individuals, and its use is now limited in favor of safer and more efficacious lipid-lowering agents. Due to its potential for side effects, its use as a pharmaceutical agent has declined, and it is mainly used as a research tool in studying lipid metabolism and related diseases.
