376359-05-6 Usage
General Description
3-(3,5-Dimethyl-pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzoic acid, also known as carprofen, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used as a pain and inflammation reliever in veterinary medicine. It inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals involved in pain, inflammation, and fever, by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). This action makes it an effective treatment for osteoarthritis in dogs, as well as post-operative pain and inflammation. Carprofen is available in various forms including tablets, chewable tablets, and injectable solutions, and is generally well-tolerated in dogs with minimal side effects when used at the recommended dosage. However, like all NSAIDs, it can cause gastrointestinal upset and should be used with caution in animals with pre-existing kidney, liver, or cardiovascular conditions.
