Description
Taurohyodeoxycholic acid sodium salt hydrate is a taurine-conjugated form of the secondary bile acid hyodeoxycholic acid. It has the ability to decrease the size and weight of human gallstones in vitro, increase bile flow, biliary cholesterol secretion, and biliary lipid secretion in rats. Additionally, it can prevent TCDCA-induced hepatotoxicity and reduce myeloperoxidase activity, expression of TNF-α and IL-6, and colonic damage in a mouse model of TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis.Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Taurohyodeoxycholic acid sodium salt hydrate is used as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of gallstones and liver diseases. It is used for its ability to decrease the size and weight of gallstones, increase bile flow, and prevent hepatotoxicity.
Used in Research Applications:
Taurohyodeoxycholic acid sodium salt hydrate is used as a research tool for studying bile salt-membrane interactions and assessing dose-response data for cytotoxicity, regenerative cell proliferation, and secondary oxidative DNA damage in rat livers treated with furan. It is also used in studies to investigate the use of an immobilized artificial membrane HPLC column to predict bile salt-membrane interactions.
