General Description
The chemical (3-allyl-2-imino-2,3-dihydro-benzoimidazol-1-yl)-acetic acid, also known as almitrine, is a medication used to treat conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other respiratory illnesses. It works by enhancing the body's ability to take in and use oxygen, and also helps to open up the airways, making it easier to breathe. Almitrine is a respiratory stimulant that acts by stimulating the peripheral chemoreceptors, increasing the sensitivity of the central respiratory centers to carbon dioxide, and decreasing the conductivity of the vagus nerve.
