4459-16-9 Usage

General Description

(2-Chloro)hexafluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propane is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C3ClF7. It is a colorless, nonflammable gas at room temperature and pressure. (2-CHLORO)HEXAFLUORO-2-(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)PROPANE is often used as a refrigerant due to its low boiling point and thermal stability. It is also used as a solvent in organic chemistry and as a propellant in aerosol cans. However, (2-chloro)hexafluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propane is known to have a high global warming potential and ozone depletion potential, so its use is being phased out in many applications in favor of more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 4459-16-9 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 4,4,5 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 4459-16:
(6*4)+(5*4)+(4*5)+(3*9)+(2*1)+(1*6)=99
99 % 10 = 9
So 4459-16-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Pyrolysis of branched-chain perfluoroalkanes in the presence of halogens

Tonelli, Claudio,Tortelli, Vito

, p. 125 - 128 (2007/10/03)

The thermal decomposition of some highly branched perfluoroalkanes in the presence of molecular halogens (Cl2, Br2, I2) has been studied. The clear-cut cleavage of the most hindered carbon-carbon bond and the trapping by halogens of the intermediate radicals so formed account for the product distribution.Kinetic measurements support a mechanism based on homolytic rupture of the perfluoroalkanes as the rate-determining step, followed by the fast reaction of the intermediates with halogens.
