Propyphenazone, also known by various brand names such as 539 Grippe-Dragees, Amipylo-n, Balpiren, and Caffalgina, is a pyrazolone derivative that is antipyrine substituted at C-4 by an isopropyl group. It is an uncharacterized alkaloid that has been described as occurring in Isox0002pyrum thalictroides L. Although no chemical or physical characteristics are known, it is identified as a solid substance.

Uses

1. Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Propyphenazone is used as an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) for the treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever. It is particularly effective in relieving headaches, joint pain, muscle pain, and toothache.
2. Used in Cold and Flu Medicine:
Propyphenazone is used as an ingredient in cold and flu medications to help alleviate symptoms such as pain, fever, and inflammation associated with these conditions.
3. Used in Veterinary Medicine:
Propyphenazone is also utilized in veterinary medicine for the treatment of pain and fever in animals, providing relief from various conditions that cause discomfort.
4. Used in Combination Therapies:
In some cases, Propyphenazone is combined with other active ingredients, such as caffeine or codeine, to enhance its analgesic and antipyretic effects, making it more effective in treating severe pain and fever.

World Health Organization (WHO)

Propyphenazone, a pyrazolone derivative with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity, was introduced in 1951 for the treatment of rheumatic disorders. As it is structurally related to aminophenazone it has been associated with severe blood dyscrasias. However, it cannot be transformed into potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines and has therefore been widely used as a replacement drug for aminophenazone. In certain countries, products containing propyphenazone have now been restricted in their indications, whereas in others they are still available, sometimes as over-the-counter preparations. See also WHO comment for aminophenazone.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 479-92-5 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 4,7 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 479-92:
(5*4)+(4*7)+(3*9)+(2*9)+(1*2)=95
95 % 10 = 5
So 479-92-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
