The first-order rate constants for the dehydrobromination of 2-bromo-2-methyladamantane in nine proton-donating and 26 aprotic solvents were determined at 25 deg C by the verdazyl method.Correlation analysis of the effect of the solvent parameters showed that the reaction rate is determined mainly by the polarity, electrophilicity, and cohesion parameters.A negative nucleophilic solvation effect appears. 2-Bromo-2-methyladamantane is characterized by high sensitivity to specific solvation effects.
