Description

Thioredoxin, a recombinant human protein expressed in Escherichia coli, is a ubiquitous protein with two redox-active half-cysteine residues that function as a general disulfide reductant. It efficiently works on model compounds and protein disulfides, playing an essential role in cellular protection against oxidative stress and cell death. Thioredoxin also inhibits apoptosis in Jurkat T-cells and human PBL blasts, and it occurs as a single polypeptide chain.
