531-73-7 Usage

Description

Proflavine dihydrochloride, also known as 3,6-diaminoacridine dihydrochloride, is an orange-red to brown-red crystalline powder with a pH of 2.5-3.0 in a 0.1% aqueous solution. It is a hydrochloride resulting from the reaction of 3,6-diaminoacridine with 2 mol eq. of hydrogen chloride.

Uses

Used in Medical Applications:
Proflavine dihydrochloride is used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of certain types of cancer, particularly in the field of cytology and histology. It binds to the DNA of cancer cells, causing them to fluoresce under ultraviolet light, allowing for easier identification and differentiation from healthy cells.
Used in Research and Development:
In the field of research, proflavine dihydrochloride is used as a fluorescent probe to study the structure and function of nucleic acids, such as DNA and RNA. Its ability to intercalate between the base pairs of nucleic acids makes it a valuable tool for investigating various aspects of molecular biology, including DNA replication, transcription, and repair mechanisms.
Used in Antimicrobial Applications:
Proflavine dihydrochloride has demonstrated antimicrobial properties, making it useful as an additive in the development of antimicrobial agents and coatings. Its ability to bind to and disrupt the structure of nucleic acids in bacteria and other microorganisms contributes to its effectiveness in inhibiting their growth and proliferation.
Used in Textile Industry:
In the textile industry, proflavine dihydrochloride is used as a dye for coloring fabrics, particularly those made from natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk. Its vibrant orange-red color and ability to bind to the fibers make it a popular choice for creating visually striking and long-lasting color effects in textiles.
Used in Analytical Chemistry:
Proflavine dihydrochloride is employed as an analytical reagent in various chemical assays and techniques, such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Its fluorescence properties enable the detection and quantification of specific compounds or analytes in complex mixtures, making it a valuable tool for chemical analysis and quality control.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 531-73-7 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 5,3 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 531-73:
(5*5)+(4*3)+(3*1)+(2*7)+(1*3)=57
57 % 10 = 7
So 531-73-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
