532-82-1 Usage

Description

Basic Orange 2, also known as a dye made from aniline, is a red-brown powder with large black shiny crystals that exhibit a green luster or a purple powder. It is characterized by its bordeaux to deep purple crystalline powder appearance.

Uses

Used in Textile Industry:
Basic Orange 2 is used as an orange dye for cotton and silk fabrics. Its high tinting strength of 100-105% makes it an effective coloring agent for these materials.
Used in Chemical Applications:
Basic Orange 2 is used in various chemical applications due to its specific properties and specifications. These include:
Lighting: Rated at 1-2, indicating its performance in terms of light fastness.
Soaping: Rated at 3-4, reflecting its resistance to washing with soap.
Perspiring: Rated at 3-4, showing its resistance to perspiration.
Friction (Dry): Rated 4, demonstrating its resistance to dry friction.
Friction (Wet): Rated 3, indicating its resistance to wet friction.
Residue on 80 Mesh: With a maximum of 5.0%, this refers to the amount of residue left after sieving the dye through an 80 mesh sieve.
Water Solubility: With a maximum of 1.0%, this indicates the solubility of the dye in water.
Volatilite at 105°C: With a maximum of 1.0%, this measures the amount of the dye that evaporates at a temperature of 105°C.
Tinting Strength: Rated at 100-105%, this is a measure of the dye's ability to impart color to a substrate.
Weight Metal Total: With a maximum of 50ppm, this refers to the total amount of heavy metals present in the dye.

Air & Water Reactions

Azo dyes can be explosive when suspended in air at specific concentrations.Slightly soluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

Basic Orange 2 is an azo compound. Toxic gases are formed by mixing compounds containing azo groups with acids, aldehydes, amides, carbamates, cyanides, inorganic fluorides, halogenated organics, isocyanates, ketones, metals, nitrides, peroxides, phenols, epoxides, acyl halides, and strong oxidizing or reducing agents. Flammable gases are formed by mixing materials in this group with alkali metals. Explosive combination can occur with strong oxidizing agents, metal salts, peroxides, and sulfides. Basic Orange 2 is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.

Hazard

Questionable carcinogen.

Fire Hazard

Flash point data for Basic Orange 2 are not available. Basic Orange 2 is probably combustible.

Safety Profile

Moderately toxic by ingestion and subcutaneous routes. Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NO, and HCl. Used as a colorant in textiles, paper, leather, inks, wood, and biological stains

Purification Methods

It is a red-brown powder which is recrystallised from H2O. It gives a yellow solution in conc H2SO4 which turns orange on dilution. Its solubility at 15o is 5.5% (H2O), 4.75% (EtOH), 6.0% (cellosolve), 9.5% (ethylene glycol), 0.005% (xylene) and is insoluble in *C6H6. The hydroiodide has m 184o (from EtOH) and the picrate forms red needles m 196o. [Muramatsu Bull Chem Soc Jpn 31 864 1958, Beilstein 6 IV 561.]

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 532-82-1 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 5,3 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 532-82:
(5*5)+(4*3)+(3*2)+(2*8)+(1*2)=61
61 % 10 = 1
So 532-82-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
