53272-87-0 Usage
General Description
The chemical [2-(4-chloro-phenyl)-5-oxo-cyclopent-1-enyl]-acetic acid, also known as Tienilic acid, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that was used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is responsible for the production of prostaglandins, molecules that cause pain and inflammation. However, the use of tienilic acid has been discontinued in many countries due to its association with severe liver toxicity and the development of hepatotoxicity in patients. As a result, it is no longer recommended for clinical use and has been replaced by safer NSAIDs.
