It yields colorless crystals when recrystallized from ethanol and exhibits strong levorotation with [α]24D 151° (c 1.39, CHC13). The molecule contains two methoxycarbonyl groups, and the base forms a crystalline hydrochloride with a melting point of 234-5°C (dec.), a perchlorate with a melting point of 264-5°C (dec.), and a picrate with a melting point of 199-200°C (dec.).
