General Description
Cytidine, 2',3',5'-triacetate, also known as Cytidine triacetate, is a synthetic nucleoside analogue and a prodrug of cytidine. It is used as an antidote in the treatment of patients with overdose or life-threatening toxicity from cytarabine or fludarabine. This chemical is rapidly deacetylated to cytidine by non-specific esterases in the body, which is then converted to the active drug, cytarabine triphosphate, in cells. This conversion process can help to rapidly restore depleted cytarabine triphosphate levels, promoting DNA synthesis and repair and improving patient survival. Cytidine, 2',3',5'-triacetate is sometimes used off-label in the treatment of other conditions such as myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia.
