Usage

General Description

2,5-bis(aziridin-1-yl)-3,6-bis(ethylsulfanyl)cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione, also known as BCNU, is a chemotherapy medication used to treat certain types of brain tumors, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. It is a potent alkylating agent, meaning it works by attaching an alkyl group to DNA, which ultimately prevents the DNA from replicating and leads to cell death. BCNU is administered intravenously and works by targeting rapidly dividing cancer cells. It has the potential for significant toxic side effects, especially to the bone marrow and gastrointestinal system, but has been used successfully in cancer treatment for over 40 years.
