Usage

General Description

5,10-Dihydro-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]diazepin-11-one, also known as clozapine, is a psychoactive pharmaceutical drug used to treat schizophrenia. It is a tricyclic dibenzodiazepine derivative that functions as an antagonist at various neurotransmitter receptors, including dopamine and serotonin receptors. Clozapine is known for its unique efficacy in treating treatment-resistant schizophrenia, but it also carries a risk of potentially serious side effects, including agranulocytosis, myocarditis, and seizures. Despite these risks, it remains an important medication for patients who do not respond to typical antipsychotic drugs, and it is generally reserved for use when other treatments have been unsuccessful.
