α,ω-Bisperfluoroalkanes have been obtained by oxidizing α,ω-diiodoperfluoroalkanes with trifluoroperacetic acid.With the aid of sulfur tetrafluoride, they have been converted into α,ω-bis(difluoroiodo)perfluoroalkanes.Upon condensation with benzene in the presence of boron trifluoride, the latter form α,ω-perfluoroalkylenebis(phenyliodonium) fluoroborates, which are new reagents for the synthesis of bifunctional derivatives of perfluoroalkanes.The reaction of α,ω-bisperfluoroalkanes with benzene and toluene has yielded α,ω-perfluoroalkylenebis(aryliodonium) trifluoroacetates.
