65997-15-1 Usage
Description
Portland cement, also known as chemical cement, is a type of hydraulic cement that consists of tricalcium silicate (3CaO·SiO2) and dicalcium silicate (2CaO·SiO2) as its main constituents. It also contains varying amounts of alumina, tricalcium aluminate, and iron oxide, and is insoluble in water. The quartz content in most finished cements is below 1%, and chromium may be present.
Uses
Used in Construction Industry:
Portland cement is primarily used in the construction industry as a binding agent in the production of concrete. It is mixed with sand, gravel, and water at a central plant and then transported wet to the construction site. This reduces the exposure of workers to cement dust at the site. However, some construction workers may still be exposed to cement dust when small amounts are mixed on site or when cement or concrete materials are cut or ground.
Reactivity Profile
Sets in an exothermic reaction to a solid of low strength within hours after mixing with water. Continuing slower exothermic reactions harden the product to a tough gray stony mass. Incompatible with acids, acid chlorides, and acid anhydrides when set. Incompatible with ammonium salts and aluminum metal when wet and unset.
Hazard
Pulmonary function effects, asthma, respi-
ratory symptoms.
See concrete (1).
Health Hazard
Portland cement is an irritant of
the eyes and causes dermatitis.
Safety Profile
A nuisance dust. A skin
irritant. See also NUISANCE DUSTS and
AEROSOLS.
Carcinogenicity
Earlier studies have suggested increases in
various types of cancer, including lung and
stomach, with exposure to cement, but numerous limitations prevent any conclusions in this
regard.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 65997-15-1 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,5,9,9 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 65997-15:
(7*6)+(6*5)+(5*9)+(4*9)+(3*7)+(2*1)+(1*5)=181
181 % 10 = 1
So 65997-15-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
