Benzolactam-V7 (3a), a simplified analogues of (-)-indolactam-V with twist-form conformation, was synthesized and evaluated as a new protein kinase C modulator. Both 3a and its-7-substituted analogue 3c showed weak binding activity to displace PDBU binding from recombinant PKCα.
