For the preparation of morphine alkaloids with multisubstituted ring C, new starting materials (6-demethoxythebaine, 6-chloro(bromo)-6-demethoxythebaine, 7-chloro(bromo)-6-demethoxythebaine and N-demethyl-N-cyclopropylcarbonyl-6-demethoxythebaine) were utilized to synthesize new 8β,14β-epoxy derivatives.Conversions of the epoxides (with 70 percent acetic acid and with sodium azide in aqueous dioxane, respectively) have also been investigated, and the azido derivatives obtained were reduced to amines. In the course of these studies new compounds having two or three substituents in ring C have been prepared.
