New Reagents, XXXIII, Synthesis of (Diphenylbismutino)methyllithium and its Reactions with Carbonyl Compounds

Kauffmann, Thomas,Steinseifer, Fritz,Klas, Norbert

, p. 1039 - 1044 (2007/10/02)

Bis(diphenylbismutino)methane (3; yield max. 53percent) was synthesized for the first time.By the reaction with phenyllithium it gave (diphenylbismutino)methyllithium (4; ca. 70percent).This thermolabile compound (half-live period ca. 34 min at 25 deg C) reacts at -78 deg C with aldehydes and benzophenone. The adducts are decomposed by HClO4 to give alkenes.Hydrolysis with water of the benzophenone adduct gave 2-(diphenylbismutino)-1,1-diphenylethanol (7; 48percent).
