The reaction of decafluorodiphenyl with trifluoroacetyl peroxide produces a mixture of isomeric perfluorobis(methyl)bis(phenyl)tetrahydrodiphenyls, i.e., dimers of the ? complexes from the addition of the trifluoromethyl radical to decafluorodiphenyl, and perfluorinated phenyldimethylcyclohexadienes, i.e., products of the interaction of the radical ? complexes formed in the reaction with the trifluoromethyl radical.Defluorination of the dimers yields isomeric perfluorobis(methyl)bis(phenyl)diphenyls, and defluorination of the dienes results in the formation of isomeric perfluorodimethyldiphenyls. The ? complexes formed in the reaction of decafluorodiphenyl with the trifluoromethyl radical do not isomerize with migration of a fluoride atom.
