7-Methyloxazolo-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (IV) and 5,5'-diethoxy-4,4'-bis-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (VII) have been synthesised from 5-ethoxy-4-nitro-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (III) and 6,6'-diethoxy-2,2',3,3'-tetraminobiphenyl (VI), respectively.The latter (VI) is obtained from the unusual ortho-benzidine rearrangement of 2,2'-diamino-5,5'-diethoxyhydrazobenzene (V).
