ALKENYLCYCLOPROPANES IN ADDITION REACTIONS. I. STEREOCHEMISTRY OF FREE-RADICAL ADDITION OF THIOPHENOL TO SUBSTITUTED ALKENYLCYCLOPROPANES

The free-radical addition of thiophenol to a series of cis-trans isomers of alkenylcyclopropanecarboxylic acids and gem-dichloro-substituted alkenylcyclopropanes was realized.The structure of the obtained adduct was established, the dependence of the isomeric composition of the reaction products on the structural characteristics of the initial alkenylcyclopropane was studied, and it was shown that the addition of thiophenol is nonstereospecific.The discovered relationships are explained on the basis of the known mechanism of free-radical addition to alkenylcyclopropanes.
