The rate of N-nitration of nine primary aromatic amines in aqueous nitric acid was measured by a spectrophotometric method.The dependence of the logarithms of the rate constans for the nitration of the amines on their basicity was refined.The basicities of 2,4,5,6-tetranitro-3-bromo-, 2,4,5,6-tetranitro-3-chloro-, and 2,3,4,5,6-pentanitroaniline were determined by means of the obtained relationship (pKBH+ -11.6, -12.0 and -15.5 repectively).
