4,6,7a-Tri-tert-butyl-7aH-1,2,3-benzodithiazole (3) reacts with phosphorus pentachloride with elimination of tert-butyl chloride to form benzodithiazolium chloride 4a.The chloride 4a reacts with SbCl5 and AgAsF6 to yield the hexachloroantimonate 4b and the hexafluoroarsenate 4c, respectively.The structure 4b was established by an X-ray analysis. 4b crystallizes, in the space group P21/c with a = 1243.9(2), b = 1525.6(2), c = 1255.7(2) pm, β = 102.86(1) deg and V = 2323(1) * 106 pm3.The structure consists of isolated + cations and - anions.The cation is planar within experimental accuracy.
