The mechanisms of reduction of 7-deoxydaunomycinone (3) and daunomycin (1) by 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-oxomorpholin-3-yl (5), the one-electron reducing agent formed from bond homolysis of d,l-bi(3,5,5-trimethyl-2-oxomorpholin-3-yl) (4), are described.Reaction of
