2. Phenylethyl Salicylate has been reported to occur in some essential flower oils, is a crystalline solid (mp 44°C) with a weak, long-lasting, balsamic, blossom odor, reminiscent of rose and hyacinth.
3. Phenethyl salicylate has a faint but persistent rose-like odor, somewhat hyacinth- and carnation-like. It has a sweet taste suggestive of peach, apricot and honey.

Preparation

From phenethyl alcohol and methylsalicylate by interchange; also by esterification of phenethyl alcohol with salicylic acid.
