The invention provides a synthetic method for 2-ethyl-4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl pyrimidine. The synthetic method comprises the following steps: dissolving a 2-ethyl-4-amino-pyrimidine ethyl formate solution in a reaction solvent, adding Lewis acid as a catalyst, adding a boron reagent as a reducing agent, and reacting to reduce 2-ethyl-4-amino-pyrimidine ethyl formate into the 2-ethyl-4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl pyrimidine. The method provided by the invention is low in cost, simple in reaction condition, simple and convenient in operation process, and is suitable to apply to large-scale industrial production.
