Treatment of 4'-hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxyflavone with iron(III) chloride in the presence of perchloric acid affords biapigeninylmethane derivatives, which have been characterized by mass, PMR and contact shift studies.Various possibilities of the origin of methylene bridge have been discussed.
