Usage

Description

Disodium clodronate tetrahydrate is a non-nitrogenous bisphosphonate that binds strongly to bone and reduces bone resorption through effects on both osteoclasts and osteoblasts. It is metabolized intracellularly to a β-γ-methylene analog of ATP that is cytotoxic to both osteoclasts and macrophages, which belong to the same cell lineage as osteoclasts. It is used in the treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Disodium clodronate tetrahydrate is used as a bisphosphonate bone growth regulator for the treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.
Used in Biological Research:
Disodium clodronate tetrahydrate is used as a selective agent for depleting macrophage-like cells and cancer cells in biological research. Liposome-encapsulated bisphosphonates such as clodronate have been used to selectively target these cells.
