Description
GUM GUAIAC, derived from the Bulnesia sarmienti Lor tree, is a resin obtained from certain Mexican and West Indian trees, particularly Guaiacum santum and G. officinale. It is characterized by its brownish-black to dusky-brown color, with a glassy luster on the fractured surface and transparent thin pieces that vary in color from brown to yellowish-orange. The powder form is moderately yellow. GUM GUAIAC has a soft, pleasant, rose-like odor reminiscent of tea roses and a slightly acrid taste. It is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol, ether, acetone, chloroform, and caustic soda.
Uses
Used in Chemical Analysis:
GUM GUAIAC is used as a reagent for the Nobles test, which involves diluting 67% (w/v) gum guaiac in 96% ethanol to analyze the level of extracellular oxidase production.
Used in Clinical Applications:
GUM GUAIAC is used as a clinical reagent for the detection of blood or hemoglobin.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
GUM GUAIAC is used in the preparation of tinctures and fluid extracts, mainly from G. officinale L. The tincture is generally a 10% solution in 60% ethanol, while the fluid extract is a reddish-brown liquid with a pleasant odor and a burning, bitter taste.
Used in Perfumery:
The essential oil obtained from GUM GUAIAC, also known as champaca wood oil, is used in perfumery due to its woody, rose-like odor reminiscent of tea roses. The main constituent of the oil is guaiol, a sesquiterpene alcohol, which makes up about 85% of the oil.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 9000-29-7 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 9,0,0 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 9000-29:
(6*9)+(5*0)+(4*0)+(3*0)+(2*2)+(1*9)=67
67 % 10 = 7
So 9000-29-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
