Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) with 2-methyl-3-anilinoquinazoline-4-one (MANQ) and 2-phenyl-3-anilinoquinazoline-4-one (PANQ) have been prepared and characterized on the basis of analytical, conductance, magnetic and infrared, electronic and ESR spectral data. All the complexes are found to be non-electrolytes.The compositions of these complexes have been found to be C4L2(CH3COO)2, NiL2Cl2, CoL2(CH3COO)2, ZnL(CH3COO)2 and CdL(CH3COO)2, where L=MANQ or PANQ.Infrared spectral data indicate that both the ligands act as bidentate, coordinating through amino nitrogen and oxygen of amido carbonyl group in all the complexes. The magnetic susceptibilities and electronic spectral data indicate that Cu(II) complexes are tetragonal, Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes are octahedral, and Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes are tetrahedral.
