The phase relations of the ternary system Ce-Al-Cu in the Cu-poor part at 503 K were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The investigated composition region consists of 16 single-phase, 32 two-phase and 17 three-phase regions. At 503 K, the ma

Evidence is provided of the role of the different hybridization strength between the surface layers and the bulk in determining the magnitude of the surface shift for the shallow Ce 4f levels, with respect to deeper core levels. The analysis is performed on both the surface- and bulk-related f0 (ionization) and f2 (affinity) features by means of photoemission and inverse photoemission, respectively, at various hr. The experimental findings show a good agreement with the results of a model calculation based on the Anderson impurity Hamiltonian.
