General Description
Bevasiranib (also known as Cand5) is a synthetic small interfering RNA (siRNA) drug designed to target and inhibit the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a protein that plays a critical role in the development and progression of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This condition is characterized by abnormal blood vessel formation in the back of the eye, leading to loss of vision. By blocking the production of VEGF, bevasiranib aims to prevent the growth of these abnormal blood vessels and preserve vision in patients with neovascular AMD.
