PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing polymerizable monomer, with which a fluorine-containing compound with a hydroxy fluoroalkyl group bonded to the para position thereof is obtained with high selectivity by making phenols and a fluorine-containing ketone react with each other. SOLUTION: A fluorine-containing compound of general formula (3) is obtained by making a compound of general formula (1) and a fluorine-containing ketone of general formula (2) react with each other in the presence of a fluorine-containing acid catalyst (in formulas, R1-R3respectively and independently represent a hydrogen atom, a straight chain, branched or cyclic alkyl group, an alkenyl group, and so on, and optionally have a fluorine or oxygen atom, R2and R3are optionally bonded to each other and either of them has a fluorine atom, X is an integer of 0-2, and Y is an integer of 0-8).
