Synthesis and Characterization of Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with 2,3-Disubstituted Quinazolin-(3H)-4-ones

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with 2-methyl-3-(2-pyridyl)quinazolin-(3H)-4-one (MPQ), 2-phenyl-3-(2-pyridyl)quinazolin-(3H)-4-one (PPQ), 3-hydroxy-2-methylquinazolin-(3H)-4-one (HMQ) and 3-hydroxy-2-phenylquinazolin-(3H)-4-one (HPQ) have been synthesized and characterized by analytical, conductivity, thermal, magnetic, infrared, electronic, PMR and ESR data.Based on analytical and thermal data, the stoichiometries of the complexes have been found to be Co(MPQ)2(CH3COO)2; Co(PPQ)2(CH3COO)2; Co(HMQ)22H2O; Co(HPQ)22H2O; Ni(MPQ)2Cl2; Ni(PPQ)2Cl2; Ni(HMQ)2; Ni(HPQ)2; Cu(MPQ)2(CH3COO)2; Cu(PPQ)2(CH3COO)2; Cu(HMQ)2; Cu(HPQ)2; ZnMPQ(CH3COO)2; ZnPPQ(CH3COO)2; Zn(HMQ)2; Zn(HPQ)2; CdMPQ(CH3COO)2; CdPPQ(CH3COO)2; Cd(HMQ)2 and Cd(HPQ)2.The infrared and PMR spectral data of the metal complexes indicate that MPQ and PPQ act as neutral bidentate and HMQ and HPQ as mononegative bidentate ligands.The electronic spectral data suggest that all the Co(II) complexes are octahedral; Ni(II) complexes of MPQ and PPQ are octahedral and those of HMQ and HPQ are square-planar.While Cu(II) complexes of MPQ and PPQ are tetragonal, those of HMQ and HPQ are square-planar.The complexes of Zn(II) and Cd(II) are tetrahedral.ESR parameters for Cu(II) complexes have been calculated.
