Uses of 2-Propenoic acid,2-methyl-,phenyl ester: it can be used to produce 4-Hydroxy-2-methyl-1-indanon. The other product is 7-Hydroxy-2-methyl-1-indanon. This reaction needs reagents NaCl and AlCl₃. The reaction time is 3 hours at the reaction temperature of 230 °C. The yield is about 52 %.
