Pd together with CuI has been well known as the catalyst towards Sonogashira reaction, which provides an effective route to functional alkynes. However, the achievement of high activity and selectivity of this catalytic system is still challenging in some cases. Illustrative examples include their low activity for aryl chloride substrates, and switched selectivity to oxidative coupling products in air atmosphere. In this work, a Cu-incorporated Au13 nanocluster [Au13Cu2(PPh3)6(SC2H4Ph)6]+[NO3]- (Au13Cu2) was designed and prepared in high yield via rapid synthesis. This atomically precise nanocluster shows the potential to be a novel catalytic system for Sonogashira reaction, featuring high activity and selectivity, as well as good recyclability even in air atmosphere.

supporting information, p. 4859 - 4864 (2018/11/21)
Visible light mediated copper catalysed denitrogenative oxidative coupling of 2-hydrazinopyridines with terminal alkynes to form 2-(alkyl/arylethynyl) pyridines in the presence of O2 at room temperature is reported with 42 examples. This is the first report on visible light stimulated N2 elimination by an in situ generated copper(ii) superoxo/peroxo complex. N2 and water are the only by-products. The green chemistry metrics evaluation signifies that the current method is ecofriendly and economically feasible. This method allows the green synthesis of mGluR5 receptor antagonists, 2-methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)pyridine (MPEP) and 2-((3-methoxyphenyl)ethynyl)-6-methylpyridine (M-MPEP).
Sonogashira cross-coupling of arenediazonium salts

supporting information; experimental part, p. 4067 - 4070 (2010/07/05)
(Figure Presented) Star-crossed lovers: The domino iododediazoniation/ Sonogashira cross-coupling of terminal alkynes with arenediazonium salts has been developed. The arenediazonium salt synthesis/iododediazoniation/Sonogashira cross-coupling sequence can also be performed as a one-pot process, omitting the isolation of the arenediazonium salt.
