In a medium containing a donor of hydrogen atoms and carbon tetrachloride 2-methyltetrahydrofuran-2-oxyl radicals are consumed in parallel reactions leading to acetopropyl alcohol and 3-chloropropyl acetate. It was shown that the reactivity of the hydrogen donor with respect to 2-methyltetrahydrofuran-2-oxyl radicals can be estimated quantitatively from determination of the paths for the consumption of the radicals. The ratios of the rate constants for the abstraction of a hydrogen atom from organic compounds by 2-methyltetrahydrofuran-2-oxyl radicals to the rate constants for its rearrangement to 3-acetoxypropyl radical were determined.
