Chemical and metabolic study of 5-(2-hydroxypropyl)-5-(2-methyl propyl) barbituric acid: Influence of alcohol function in β

The behaviour of an hydroxybarbiturate is studied in vitro, under biomimetic conditions, and in vivo, in rats and dogs. In these two cases, pyrimidine trione undergoes a ring opening by intramolecular alcoholysis but, in vivo, an hepatic hydroxylation of alkyl chain is followed by a second lactonization into a spiro compound.
