The reaction of 3-aryl- or alkylsubstituted 4-hydroxy-2-quinolones or 4-hydroxycoumarins (3 a-k) with benzoylchloride afforded the 4-benzoyloxy-2-quinolones or 4-benzoyloxycoumarines 2 a-k.Only in one case the 3,3-disubstituted quinolinedione 4 has been isolated, which rearranges to 2 a under thermal or basic conditions. - Key words: 4-Benzoyloxycoumarins, 3-Benzoyl-3-benzyl-2,4-dioxo-quinoline, 4-Benzoyloxyde-2-quinolones
