Description

Lithium phenyl-2,4,6-trimethylbenzoylphosphinate, also known as LAP, is a water-soluble, cytocompatible Type I photoinitiator used for the polymerization of hydrogels and other polymeric materials. It is preferred over Irgacure 2959 for biological applications due to its increased water solubility, higher polymerization rates with 365 nm light, and absorbance at 400 nm, which allows for polymerization with visible light.

Uses

Used in Biomedical Applications:
Lithium phenyl-2,4,6-trimethylbenzoylphosphinate is used as a photoinitiator for the polymerization of hydrogels and other polymeric materials in biomedical applications. Its increased water solubility, higher polymerization rates, and absorbance at 400 nm make it a preferred choice over Irgacure 2959. The improved polymerization kinetics enable cell encapsulation at reduced initiator concentration and longer wavelength light, which has been shown to reduce initiator toxicity and increase cell viability.
