Direct alkenylation of 1-phenylpyrazoles with alkenes such as acrylates accompanied by regioselective CH bond cleavage proceeds efficiently under ruthenium catalysis in the presence of a copper oxidant. The procedure is also applicable to 2-phenylbenzothiazole and benzanilide.
