The asymmetric synthesis of TmdPhe was easily accomplished in gram quantities. Site-directed incorporation of this compound into the structure of a calmodulin-binding peptide using automated peptide synthesis afforded a photoreactive peptide that was successfully used for the specific labeling of calmodulin.
